Performing Arts

GARDEN CITY, NY, February  2011—From March 8 through March 13, the Department of Theatre at Adelphi University presents the Tony Award-winning play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, directed by Professor and Chair of the Department of Theatre Nicholas Petron M.A. ‘70, in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Winner of the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play, The Crucible is the most frequently produced work from Miller’s impressive repertoire. A tale of love, morality, fear, and hypocrisy set in seventeenth century Salem, MA, this dramatization was written as an allegory for McCarthyism and the House Committee on Un-American Activities of the 1950s. Inspired by Miller’s personal experience of being interrogated by the committee about his political views and activism, The Crucible continues to resonate with audiences today with its powerful insights into personal betrayal and social oppression.

For many people, the only form of entertainment they are exposed to is television and radio. There is so much that this world offers in the way of entertainment that goes way beyond what you can see on the television. Proof positive of this would be the performing arts. Unlike television, performing arts bring about a sense of culture and class that is surely lacking in the modern day entertainment arena.

The basics of performing arts would be those that are performed live before an audience. The range of such productions is not limited and the changes in performing arts over the last couple of decades have been massive, but there is still the chance to see some of the finest in entertainment and have a night out on the town.

Performing Arts

There are a lot of different academic disciplines. It is remarkable that those disciplines unite a number of different subjects. For example, history is a discipline which contains different kinds of it, like American history, Ancient history, World history and others. But, we are not going to focus this article on history. We should better talk about beauty and the ways of its performing. There are a lot of different ways to perform an art, for example, music, dance, theater, films, painting and others. All these subjects should be a part of students’ curriculum. There are a lot of different reasons for this and some of them are listed below. The reasons to study performing arts in colleges 1.Students learn the history of art. They are able to see the most beautiful things in the world. At the same time, students become well-educated and polite people. 2.Dance is an art. When students watch others dancing, their mood improves. Furthermore, if students attend dancing classes they are sure to keep fit and acquire some useful skills. It is always pleasant when a student can move to the music. 3.Watching different paintings of famous artists, students can be sure that they see the world through their vision. If people attend painting classes, they try to improve the world, paint it better and it may seem that the world has become better. 4.Cinematography is a separate part of the art. Students can not only see a painting, listen to the music or look at dancing couple, but perceive all that together. Movies show students another world, an imaginary one, but it is the reality, to some extent. Now, is not it a great chance to know something new, to enjoy a day and to improve mood by means of performing art class without leaving a classroom?
